LEARN TO
SKATE
Is for
new or recreational skaters ages 4 to 14 years old who want to
learn how to skate or improve their current skills. Students will
be placed into groups of 5 to 10 according to ability and age. Must
be at least 4 years old and able to take direction from their coach
in a group format.
We strongly recommend a HECC approved helmet with full face mask,
skates (hockey or figure). Rentals available (you should be at the
rink at least a half hour prior to rent skates). Gloves (hockey or
mittens), kneepads and elbow pads are recommended. We run many LTS
programs (6 to 8 weeks) for many youth hockey organizations (Triboro,
Shrewsbury, Starhawks,
Twin
City)
from Sept thru April. We run our own program in May and June.

HOCKEY
DEVELOPMENT
This beginner clinic is designed for
relatively new skaters ages 5 to 14 years old that can skate and
want to learn the skills necessary to play on an organized team. We
teach edges, hockey turns, crossovers, stopping, balance and
agility, proper body positions, puck control, passing and game
situations. If you want to play organized hockey but need to learn
the basics required to have success on a team. Full equipment is
required. This clinic is usually run an hour after LTS or at the
same time on half ice.
Students do need to
have basic skating skills prior to joining the hockey development
program.
If you are not sure if your student is ready, please check with
Coach Dillon or the LTS Director prior to signing up.
HOCKEY SKILLS CLINIC
This
clinic is designed for the hockey player usually age 8 to 14 years
Old. We teach Defensive and Offensive Zone Coverage, Fore checking,
puck-handling, deking, passing, wrist shots, backhand shots, snap
shots, slap shots, rebounds and one-timers as well as controlled
cross ice scrimmages. We will break down into three groups of 6-9
players according to age & ability. We will limit enrollment of
this clinic to a maximum of 27 students. Players should have good
skating skills and be ready to learn more hockey skills and hockey
concepts. Availability is on a first serve basis.
FUNDAMENTAL CLINIC
This clinic is designed for the hockey player usually age 5 to 14
years Old. We teach the fundamentals (proper body positions, all
edges, hockey turns, crossovers, stopping, forward & backward
stride, balance and agility, stickhandling, deking, and passing) so
your child can reach their full potential. Your player may know how
to skate but they may not be skating properly. If they are missing
just one edge your child will not be able to transition from forward
to backwards or cross over in every direction. In order to
facilitate better learning, we limit enrollment to 36 skaters with a
low student to teacher ratio (5:1 or better). Once your child has
mastered the fundamental skills or if they have been playing for
awhile and are already on a Town one team they may be ready for the
FUNDAMENTAL /
INTERMEDIATE Clinic.

FUNDAMENTAL /
INTERMEDIATE CLINIC
This
clinic is designed for the hockey player usually age 7 to 14 years
Old. This clinic teaches proper body positions, all edges, hockey
turns, crossovers, stopping, forward & backward stride, balance and
agility, stick handling, deking, and passing. The drills are more
challenging than the fundamental level and also we assume you have
the basic forward edges mastered. In order to facilitate better
learning, we limit enrollment to 36 skaters with a low student to
teacher ratio (5:1 or better). Our clinics are corrective, thus
each student is required to purchase a notebook and write down what
they are learning every session. Once the student has mastered
these techniques, they are permitted to enroll in the next available
Intermediate/Advanced clinic.
INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED CLINIC
This
clinic is designed for the hockey player usually age 7 to 14 years
Old. Most students have mastered the fund/Int clinic level or are
playing Select, AA or AAA hockey and are now ready to be further
challenged with more intense and difficult drills. This clinic
teaches proper body positions, all edges, hockey turns, crossovers,
stopping, Quick starts, forward & backward stride, balance and
agility, puck-handling, deking, and passing. In order to facilitate
better learning, we limit enrollment to 32 skaters with a low
student to teacher ratio (5:1 or better). Our clinics are
corrective, thus each student is required to purchase a notebook and
write down what they are learning every session. Availability is on
a first serve basis.
ADVANCED / ELITE CLINIC
This clinic is designed for the player usually age 7 to 14 years Old
who has mastered the Intermediate/Advanced level clinic and/or
already plays at an AAA level. We teach proper body positions,
advanced edge control, hockey turns, crossovers, stopping, advanced
quick starts, advanced forward & backward stride, advanced balance
and agility, advanced puck control, deking, and passing as well as
controlled 3 on 3 mini scrimmages. This is an
Hour and Twenty minute
high intensity clinic for highly motivated skaters who already have
solid skating skills in place and are looking to refine their
skills. Availability is on a first serve basis.
HIGH SCHOOL / JUNIOR / COLLEGE
This clinic is designed for the
player usually age 14 and older who wants to take their game to the
next level. We teach proper body positions, edge control, hockey
turns, crossovers, stopping, advanced quick starts, advanced
forward & backward stride, advanced balance and agility, advanced
puck control, deking, and passing as well as controlled 3 on 3 mini
scrimmages. This is an
Hour and Twenty
minute
high intensity clinic for highly motivated skaters who already have
solid skating skills in place and are looking to refine their
skills.
Availability is on a first serve basis.
JUNIORS / COLLEGE / PRO
Our
philosophy is simple; we emphasize Skating Technique
while incorporating hockey skills. This clinic is designed for the
serious player aspiring to play high level hockey. (D1 College or
Professional). You must be pre-approved or invited to participate
in this clinic.
We will teach proper body positions, all edges,
advanced hockey turns, advanced crossovers, adv. stopping, adv.quick
starts, adv.forward & backward stride, advanced balance and agility,
puck-handling, and deking. Players will scrimmage as well. In order
to facilitate better learning, we will limit enrollment to 12 to
15 players. Each student is encouraged to purchase a notebook and
write down what they are learning every session.
This clinic is
taught personally by Coach Dillon and one or two assistants.

D1 COLLEGE / PRO CAMPS
These clinics are customized for small groups of D1, AHL and NHL
players only. The focus is to improve skating techniques and
to offer scrimmage opportunities for high level players.

CHECKING
CLINIC
These
clinics are usually one day and include a half hour off ice training
as well as two hours on ice. They are designed for the hockey
player ages 8 to 14 years Old. In the game of hockey it is
important to know how to give and receive a check for obvious safety
concerns. In fact, 87% of all injuries that occur in hockey are
directly related to body checking. This clinic focuses on
Checking,
Angling, and Defensive concepts.
This
clinic teaches angling, how to give and receive a check, stick
checks, sweep checks, poke checks, hip checks, pinch checks, winning
the one to one battles, and separating your opponent from the puck
while regaining control of the puck. We separate students into
similar ages and groups. We will also use checking pads for safety.
We limit enrollment to the first 36 sign ups.
